Excellent points, Ranjeet. I have been people's "friend," but it happened after George Floyd was murdered and people wanted to prove they had black "friends." This happened to me with a woman I worked with. During the year I had made several attempts to get coffee with her, meet up for lunch, she always turned me down. I stopped trying. After George Floyd was killed, and the uprising, she came out of the woodwork, and wanted to force me into saying that we were friends, that I could be honest with her about my experiences of her racism.
