Hi Bridgette, thanks for the article. Yes, I think I have also recently revisited my thoughts on cultural appropriation. I used to be dead-set against it, then I was like, "well, if you have good reasons for it." But now, I realize that cultural appropriation is just an extension of the value differences between racial groups. So, true, if a black person wears cornrows, this can equal stop and frisk. If a white person wears cornrows, it means sell a platinum record. That's not because of the cornrows, it's because the society thinks that what black people do is not as valuable. So, it's like, if I speak in an impassioned tone, and a white person does the same, I am the angry one. It's not about the tone, so it won't help to tell white people not to be impassioned in their speech. Anyway, it is a complex issue because cultural appropriation, or however we call it, is salt in the wound. It just has a bad feeling.
