I do understand your point. I have scoured many Craigslist ads for housing, and a good handful of people write "gay friendly" in their ads. Looking deeper into it, I could see how this could be taken as a preference, even though it's not stating "gay only." I would like to see a way that people in protected classes find safe housing, so that the laws reflect that some forms of discrimination are in fact necessary to lead to equity. It sounds contradictory, but sometimes things need to be unequal to lead to an eventual equal balance in the long term, for example affirmative action. So, tricky subject for sure.
