I think as a society we haven’t found a way to be matter-of-fact about racism. What I mean is, the current bounces between let’s not talk about it, to that’s all there is. What I have heard about forgiveness and “moving on,” and although this was not successfully done necessarily in the TRC in South Africa, a large part of facing history is the acknowledgment of the harms and impact it has on today. So, if that piece is swept away, then there is no healing. I do think people are grappling with how to get their stories heard, especially about racism, because for centuries they have been ignored, with the Holocaust, there were the Nurenberg trials and public, governmental responses about the horrors, for example. So, as individuals, we have been tasked with shifting the culture and awareness.
