Right. I do agree that when people understand racism, there is a sense of betrayal, so it probably also depends on the development of the individual. At the same time, the idea is that the more you understand how the world works, you know how to better read your experiences. I know, for example, here living in Peru, many people don't think racism exists. Partially because it's actually very painful to face that sometimes people won't like you just because of your skin and there is nothing you can do about it. I would say if people are in that phase, it would definitely be psychologically damaging to learn racism is a fundamental structure.
