Thank you for the article! I was scouring around to see who would take up this story. I would say it's a perfect metaphor for US history, the silencing, the "turning off" and "turning down" of people of color by those with pen and sword. I read in an interview about the incident that Kemter was asked to take the part about freed African Americans out via email, that it had been highlighted and not said explicitly to be removed. It said something like, 'please remove the highlighted parts.' Kemter wrote he saw none of the highlighted parts. I wonder if he would have taken it out if he had seen the highlighted parts. In any case, the censoring did the exact opposite, it magnified the ignorance a thousand fold. I didn't even know of Hudson Ohio, I do now! I am glad Kemter spoke the truth.
